Man charged in assault on ex-girlfriend.WORCESTER - A 39-year-old city man was arrested earlier this week on multiple charges for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, including allegedly cutting off clumps of her hair with scissors, officials said. Samuel A. Broni of 99 Country Club Blvd., Apt. 95, was arrested by Officer Gerald G. Condo shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday at the Walgreens drugstore, 937 West Boylston St., police said. He was charged with assault and battery, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (scissors), two counts of assault to rape, kidnapping, criminal harassment, breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, putting a person in fear and intimidating a witness, officers said. The victim told police that Mr. Broni was her ex-boyfriend. When she arrived home from work at 1:30 p.m. Thursday he was waiting in her bedroom, she told police. He told her he couldn't understand why she had broken up with him and then proceeded to beat her for hours using his fists and kicked her repeatedly, police said. He then allegedly took scissors to her hair and suggested they leave the apartment for a ride, police said. As they left the building, he spotted an older woman and a younger man. Fearful she might say something to them, he grabbed her and took her back inside for more punishment, police said. Later, the victim told him she needed a bandage for an injured foot and he consented to drive her to the drugstore. When she got there she broke away from him and ran behind a counter pleading for help. He ran after her. Police were summoned by employees. Mr. Broni was stopped by Officer Condo as he fled through the front door, officials said. Paramedics were summoned and found bumps on the victim's left cheek and side of her head. She was taken to the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus for treatment, they said. |
