Maloney Vision Institute's Gift of Sight Program Offers Lasik and Vision Correction Surgery to Quadriplegic Patients at No Charge.

LOS ANGELES -- Dr. Robert K. Maloney of the Maloney Vision Institute in Los Angeles, Calif., along with other doctors including Dr. Daniel Durrie of Durrie Vision in Overland, Kansas, is launching a national program, called the Gift of Sight, in which eye surgeons provide LASIK or vision correction surgery at no charge to quadriplegics.

"To many people glasses are a sometimes a mere nuisance, but to quadriplegics glasses can be a constant source of aggravation. With the Gift of Sight program, we aim to make day-to-day life a little bit easier for these patients," said Dr. Maloney.

The Gift of Sight program is intended for patients over the age of 18, who have suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury and have lost the use of their hands and/or arms, making it difficult or impossible to put on or take off their glasses or contacts without assistance.

"We are asking quadriplegic patients to email or call us with their name, type of injury and the date of their injury. We will then begin to evaluate their case to see if they are a good vision correction candidate."
