Malaysian natural rubber production increases 2.5% in April 2005.

Production of the commodity, however, was down by 11.4% when compared with the same period of last year, the department said in a statement detailing the monthly rubber statistics.

Exports of natural rubber in April 2005 totaled 92,945 metric tons, a drop of 7.5% compared with the previous month, and 2.5% year-on-year.

Total exports to these six countries accounted for 64.1% of the overall natural rubber exports, according to the department.

Meanwhile, imports of natural rubber in April amounted to 31,884 metric tons, a decline of 21.5% when compared with March imports, and 5.9% when compared with April 2004.

The Statistics Department reported that imports from January to March were mainly from Thailand (76.3%), the Philippines (7.9%), Myanmar (6.6%) and Indonesia (5.9%).

Domestic consumption of natural rubber in April 2005 meanwhile decreased by 4.4% to 33,164 metric tons compared to the previous month. It was also down 6.9% compared with April 2004.

The major consuming industries were rubber gloves rubber gloves rubber nplgants mpl en caoutchouc  (59.1%), rubber thread (15.1%) and tires and tubes (12.9%).

Stocks of natural rubber held as of the end of April 2005 were 157,351 metric tons, a drop of 11% compared with the previous month, and down by 9.85% compared with the same period of last year.

Meanwhile, the average monthly price of bulk latex latex, emulsion of a polymer (e.g., rubber) in water (see colloid). Natural latexes are produced by a number of plants, are usually white in color, and often contain, in addition to rubber, various gums, oils, and waxes.  in April 2005 went down marginally by 0.3% to 350.23 sen compared with the previous month, but it was up 1.4% when compared with April 2004.

The price of Standard Malaysian Rubber decreased by 2.3% to 459.6 sen from March 2005, and similarly it was also decreased by 5.8% compared with April 2004.

Meanwhile, the number of workers in rubber estates in April 2005 dropped by 1.7% to 11,820 persons compared with the previous month. The drop was 12.4% when compared with April 2004.

The department also said productivity of yield tapped in April 2005 was 66.4 kilograms per hectare hectare (hĕk`târ, –tär), abbr. ha, unit of area in the metric system, equal to 10,000 sq m, or about 2.47 acres. , down by 2.9% when compared with March 2005.
