Making a vision a reality.Gilsanz Murray Steficek, LLP, New York, announced that Vicki Arbitrio, P.E., Associate, gave an insightful presentation on August 27 at the 2004 AIA New York State Convention in Ithaca, NY. Ms. Arbitrio's topic was Structural Case Study: Exhibits in Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim Meyer Guggenheim, 1828–1905, b. Aargau canton, Switzerland, emigrated (1847) to the United States, prospered as a retail merchant in Philadelphia, and in time built up a flourishing business importing Swiss embroidery. When nearly 60 he purchased from friends some Colorado mining property. Sensing that sure profits were in processing rather than in mining, he built large smelters in Colorado and Mexico and a refinery at Perth Amboy, N.J. Museum. The presentation gave attendees a better understanding of the behavioral physics of structures and of the importance of communication between all team members. Ms. Arbitrio discussed; working within a landmark's constraints as well as the specific space and structural restrictions to install large art exhibits within the FLW building. On October 5, 2004, Ms. Arbitrio will be part of the afternoon panel speaking at the AIA New York Chapter's Architecture Week 2004: Design-in Marathon: Focus on Collaboration in Design", starting at 1 p.m. Ms. Arbitrio is the Director for the National Council of Structural Engineers Association (NCSEA NCSEA - National Child Support Enforcement Association NCSEA - National Council of Structural Engineers Associations NCSEA - Nepal Civil Service Employees' Association NCSEA - North Carolina Solar Energy Association NCSEA - North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association NCSEA - Northern California Solar Energy Association (established in 1974)), the former Secretary of the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY), and members of both the Architecture League and American Society of Civil Engineers. She has also been published in Structure Magazine and the New York State Real Estate Journal.
