Make excel comments less intrusive.


In December 2003 (page 91) we ran a brief item on adding comments to Excel cells and showed how to get rid of those little red triangles that clutter the worksheet. Pam Luedtke, a CPA (Computer Press Association, Landing, NJ) An earlier membership organization founded in 1983 that promoted excellence in computer journalism. Its annual awards honored outstanding examples in print, broadcast and electronic media. The CPA disbanded in 2000.  from Middleton, Wisconsin Middleton is a city in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. Middleton is a western suburb of the state capital Madison. Middleton's motto is "The Good Neighbor City."

In July of 2007, CNN/Money and Money
, suggested another way: With your cursor in the cell in which you want to attach a comment, click on Data and Validation, bringing up the Data Validation In computer science, data validation is the process of ensuring that a program operates on clean, correct and useful data. It uses routines, often called validation rules, that check for correctness or meaningfulness of data that are input to the system.  box (see screenshot See screen shot.  below).

Type your message under Input message and click on OK. The message next to the cell appears only when your cursor is in the cell.

Below is a comparison of the two methods. On the left is the Validation method; on the right is the conventional Insert Comment method.
