Major expansion under way at Borden's Edmonton resins plant.


BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 1996--Borden Chemical, Inc. today announced that it has begun construction of a $14 million (Canadian) expansion of its forest products resins facility at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Scheduled for completion during the third quarter of 1997, the expansion will more than triple the site's capacity to produce formaldehyde formaldehyde (fôrmăl`dəhīd'), HCHO, the simplest aldehyde. It melts at −92°C;, boils at −21°C;, and is soluble in water, alcohol, and ether; at STP, it is a flammable, poisonous, colorless gas with a suffocating , 37% solution basis, to approximately 150 million kilograms (330 million pounds) per year and will also expand urea formaldehyde resin production capacity.
