(IAS), which also puts on the International AIDS Conference Education, networking and the promotion of best practice are essential to enhancing the response to HIV/AIDS. IAS conferences provide opportunities to share experience, and increase the knowledge and expertise of professionals working in HIV/AIDS. , which happens in even-numbered years (the next one will be near Bangkok, Thailand, in July 2004). The Paris conference has been called "the international forum that brings together scientists and clinical researchers working on HIV/AIDS HIV/AIDS Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome from both the developed and developing world, forging alliances to jointly address the most pressing issues in the combat against this global emergency" (quote from Professor Joep Lange Joep MA Lange (MD 1981, PhD 1987) is a clinical researcher from The Netherlands, specialising in HIV therapy. He is currently (2006) Professor of Medicine at the Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam and Senior Scientific Advisor to the International Antiviral Therapy , chairman of the International AIDS Society).
