Major FSCT awards presented at Annual Meeting.The following awards were presented as part of the FSCT FSCT Federation of Societies for Coating TechnologyFSCT Fire Support Control Terminal 81st Annual Meeting: President's Award The FSCT President's Award was presented to Charles R. Hegedus, Chair, and the FSCT Publications Committee. This award recognizes and honors significant contributions made on behalf of the Federation during the tenure of a president. President David Jack presented the award to Dr. Hegedus in "grateful recognition for significant contributions to FSCT publication efforts" in the development of the two new FSCT journals: JCT JCT Junction JCT Jerusalem College of Technology JCT Joint Contracts Tribunal (UK build contracts governing body) JCT Journal of Coatings Technology JCT John Christner Trucking JCT Journal of Curriculum Theorizing RESEARCH and JCT COATINGSTECH. Distinguished Service Award The FSCT Distinguished Service Award was presented to David Jack, of the Toronto Society, in grateful recognition of his valuable contributions to the progress of the Federation while serving as President of the organization in 2002-2003. John A. Gordon General John Alexander Gordon (born August 22, 1946, in Jefferson City, Missouri[1]) was deputy director of central intelligence, Central Intelligence Agency, Washington, D.C. He served as the President's Homeland Security advisor from 2003 to 2004. Best Paper Award The FSCT presented its third annual John A. Gordon Best Paper Award to Charles Sizemore, Taesam Kim, and Chhiu-Tsu Lin, of Northern Illinois University , for their paper, "Chrome-Free Organic/Inorganic Hybrid Coatings for Surface Pretreatments Monitored by LIBS LIBS Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy Technique." The award recognizes the best paper presented during the FSCT Annual Meeting Program based on new and original scientific content and presentation effectiveness. Roon Foundation Award These cash awards and plaques, established by the late Leo Leo, in astronomy Leo [Lat.,=the lion], northern constellation lying S of Ursa Major and on the ecliptic (apparent path of the sun through the heavens) between Cancer and Virgo; it is one of the constellations of the zodiac. Roon, and administered by the Coatings Industry Education Foundation, are for the best technical papers entered in the competition and submitted for presentation at the FSCT's Annual Meeting by individuals associated with the organic coatings industry. Gerry Gough Receives FSCT George Baugh Heckel Award Gerry J. Gough, Quality Manager for ICI (language) ICI - An extensible, interpretated language by Tim Long with syntax similar to C. ICI adds high-level garbage-collected associative data structures, exception handling, sets, regular expressions, and dynamic arrays. Packaging Coatings Ltd., Birmingham, England, received the Federation's highest honor, the George Baugh Heckel Award, at the Opening Session of the FSCT's Annual Meeting on November 13, 2003 in Philadelphia, PA. Considered the most prestigious of FSCT awards, the Heckel Award recognizes the outstanding contributions that an individual has made to the organization's interest and prestige. Established in 1951, the Award is dedicated to the memory of George Baugh Heckel, who served as Temporary Chairman when the Federation was organized in 1922, and as Secretary for many years thereafter. According to Heckel Award Committee Chair, Rose Ryntz of Visteon Corp., who presented Mr. Gough with the award, "Gerry has been a pillar of strength and endurance through the six years that I have known him. He has led the Federation as President in a time of tremendous change, yet his professionalism and collegiate spirit have made working with him a pure delight." Mr. Gough was "honored and humbled," when he accepted the award, "especially given that this award is the highest that the Federation can bestow, and the list of previous recipients reads like a 'Who's Who' of eminent members of our organization and the industry." Mr. Gough is the first resident of the United Kingdom to receive the Heckel Award. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] FSCT Accomplishments Mr. Gough has contributed to the FSCT in many capacities, with years of service at both the international and the local level. The 78th President of the FSCT in 1999-2000, Mr. Gough was the first resident of the United Kingdom to serve as the organization's head. From 1990-1997, he was a member of the FSCT Board of Directors as the Representative of the Birmingham Paint, Varnish, and Lacquer Club (recently renamed the British Society for Coatings Technology). He was a member of the FSCT's Executive Committee from 1994-2001, and also served as Chair of the FSCT's Society Speaker Awards Committee (1987-88), was a member of the Liaison Committee (1990-97), the Professional Development Committee (1997-98), and Heckel Award Committee (1999-2001) and Chair of the Nominations Committee (2000-01). He serves as the Federation's Representative to IUPAC IUPAC: see International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. (1990 to present). Society Accomplishments President of the Birmingham Club in 1987-88, Mr. Gough served as Publicity Officer in 1983-84, and served on the Club's Executive (1983-97), Program (1983, 1987-88), Membership (1994-99), and Technical (1981-92) Committees. In recognition of his many contributions to the Society, he was awarded the Club's Distinguished Service Certificate in 1994 and was elected an Honorary Life Member of the Society in 2001.
