Maintech awarded contract by Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory for maintenance services.

WALLINGTON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1995--Maintech, a leading provider of service solutions for advanced systems, has been awarded a contract to provide Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL PPPL Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (funded by US; managed by Princeton)
PPPL Plant Protection Product List
) with maintenance management services for its DEC equipment in Princeton, N.J.

The contract is for one year with two options of one year each. The equipment being serviced at the research facility represents 59 CPU's ranging from DEC VAX (Virtual Address eXtension) A venerable family of 32-bit computers from HP (via Digital and Compaq) introduced in 1977 with the VAX-11/780. VAX models ranged from desktop units to mainframes all running the same VMS operating system, and VAXes could emulate PDP models  4300's TO 8700's, MicroVAX 2's as well as Alpha systems and supports over 400 users. Maintech's customized service plan combines 24/7 coverage for the more critical servers with next day service for less critical equipment.

The systems support PPPL's primary mission, which is the development of magnetic fusion energy as means of generating electricity. If successful, Fusion may have many advantages over today's energy sources, including the world-wide availability of inexhaustible low-cost fuel, no contribution to acid rain or global warming, and radiological hazards thousands of times less than fission fission, in physics: see nuclear energy and nucleus; see also atomic bomb. .

"In responding to the bid Maintech was in the company of other large service organizations," states Bob Coscia, Maintech's director of sales support. "We were pleased to have been chosen to maintain the systems at PPPL, particularly when the systems are part of such an important research project."
