Maintaining his innocence in federal bribery and extortion charges, Alaska Representative Vic Kohring announced he will resign his office in July.


Maintaining his innocence in federal bribery and extortion extortion, in law, unlawful demanding or receiving by an officer, in his official capacity, of any property or money not legally due to him. Examples include requesting and accepting fees in excess of those allowed to him by statute or arresting a person and, with  charges, Alaska Representative Vic Kohring Vic Kohring (born 1958) is a former Republican Alaska State legislator. He was elected to seven consecutive two year terms in the State House, beginning in 1994. Kohring represented District 14, Wasilla.  announced he will resign his office in July. Kohring is accused of selling a vote on oil and gas taxes to executives at Veco Corp., an oil field services and construction company. The executives pleaded guilty in May to paying the bribes. Kohring, first elected in 1994, has pleaded not guilty and hopes to return to office some day. "Resigning by no means suggests guilt," Kohring said.  stood by Kohring at his announcement and said the reputation of the House will be preserved by Kohring's resignation. Former Representatives Pete Kott Peter "Pete" Kott (b. 1949) is a former state representative for District 17 serving Eagle River, Alaska, in the Alaska Legislature for seven terms, from 1993 until 2007. He was Speaker of the House during his sixth term in 2003-2004.  and Bruce Weyhrauch also pleaded not guilty in the case.
