[NY] Certain artists, long after leaving the stage, remain present, reverberating like a heartbeat. South African solo choreographer and dancer Vincent Mantsoe possesses such staying power. Sleekly muscular and charmed with a radiating smile that belies a fierce intensity, Mantsoe performs rituals of spiritual fulfillment whose influences range from China to Africa. In NDAA (Awakening of the Self) to be presented at DTW Feb. 10-12, Mantsoe asks in his program notes, "Is there anyone here? Is there something existing around me that I cannot see or hear? Am I existing between reality and imagination?" In the 40 minutes that carry him into a trance, Mantsoe dances among his ancestral spirits, greeting both them and his riveted audience members.
