Magnetic Recording Solutions Speeds Production Testing of PMR Recording Media Used in Leading Edge Hard Drives.

Third Generation, 200 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  Tester Features 30% Higher Throughput Rate Throughput rate is an obsolete term[1] in the terminology of automated chemical analysis. It may mean either:
  • Input rate
  • Output rate

The MT4000 -- building on the success of the MRS3000-G2 launched in January of this year -- incorporates new, low noise 200MHz error detection electronics that enables media manufactures to test PMR disks in less time, further reducing the cost per disk tested. The MT4000 maintains the same high level of defect sensitivity as the G2 which has demonstrated correlation to "in-drive" media defects, thereby allowing makers of hard disk drives to further increase production yields and profitability.

"Our customers operate in one of the world's most competitive markets, and they need to show continuous reduction in cost per disk while maintaining or increasing hard drive final test yields," commented Wayne Erickson, executive vice president of MRS. "Using the MT4000 in their media test operation will enable them to meet these objectives."

MT4000 sets the new industry standard for productivity and low cost of ownership, which are critical elements in production testing. The MT4000 is a multifunction media tester that provides head burnish, glide test, magnetic certification and magnet erase on one integrated platform. The system can be equipped with one to four test head positioners providing unmatched flexibility for custom configurations. The MT4000 is competitively priced and will be available for delivery in Q4, 2007.

About Magnetic Recording Solutions

Magnetic Recording Solutions, Inc. is a private corporation founded in 1997. The company supplies equipment to test critical components used in the disk drive industry. MRS is the recognized technology leader in production media testers. The company also makes production test equipment and modules for the semiconductor wafer (1) A small, thin continuous-loop magnetic tape cartridge that has been used from time to time for data storage and specialized applications.
