Magnesium casting industry technology roadmap sets path for future of magnesium casting.AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System. AFS - Andrew File System Magnesium magnesium (măgnē`zēəm, –zhəm), metallic chemical element; symbol Mg; at. no. 12; at. wt. 24.305; m.p. about 648.8°C;; b.p. about 1,090°C;; sp. gr. 1.738 at 20°C;; valence +2. Div. 6 has sponsored a collaborative effort to examine the future of the magnesium casting industry, determine the highest priority needs to overcome important technical challenges and chart a course for successful growth in the next 15 years. These items are outlined in the newly available "Magnesium Casting Industry Technology Road Map" report. One of the roadmap goals is to build a consensus throughout the magnesium casting industry about the actions needed to defend existing markets and capitalize on Cap´i`tal`ize on` v. t. 1. To turn (an opportunity) to one's advantage; to take advantage of (a situation); to profit from; as, to capitalize on an opponent's mistakes s>. new opportunities. The roadmap also outlines the strategic technology agenda for achieving the needs and expectations of the industry and its customers. The technological strategy of the magnesium casting industry has three principal components: Process Technology, Information Management & Sharing, and Infrastructure Development. Three priority activities are identified in the report--developing process guidelines guidelines, n.pl a set of standards, criteria, or specifications to be used or followed in the performance of certain tasks. for non-diecast magnesium foundry products; producing an atlas of microstructures, casting defects and mechanical properties of typical magnesium casting alloys and processes; and developing a database of research and development projects and recent technological developments.
