Magnesium Doorframe Wins Excellence Award.


The International Magnesium Assn. (IMA (Interactive Multimedia Association, Annapolis, MD) An earlier trade association founded in 1988 originally as the Interactive Video Industry Association. It provided an open process for adopting existing technologies and was involved in subjects such as networked services, scripting ), McLean, Virginia McLean is an unincorporated community located in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. A small geographic area along Chain Bridge Road in Arlington County has a 22101 zip code and is also part of McLean. , presented its Awards of Excellence in May during the 58th Annual World Magnesium Conference in Brussels, Belgium.

This year's 2001 Awards of Excellence joint-winners of the design award in a cast product are Walter Mayer Walter Mayer (born March 17 1957) is an Austrian Cross-country skier and coach. He won the Vasaloppet in 1980, and finished second in 1992. As a coach, he was banned from the 2006 and 2010 Olympics after blood transfusion equipment was found in a house used by Austrian skiers  of Georg Fischer Georg Fischer (born 1960) was a West German cross country skier who competed in the 1980s. He finished seventh in the 4 x 10 km relay at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.  Moessner, Germany, and Wolfgang Kauke of DaimlerChrysler, Germany. The award was presented for the inner doorframe on the Mercedes Benz CL Coupe. The part, which has been in production for two years, is produced on a 330-ton press in alloy AM50 and achieved a weight reduction of 40% over the traditional steel construction. This casting is an example of large magnesium die castings being used as structural components in the automotive industry, according to the IMA.

The Awards of Excellence is an annual program open to companies demonstrating outstanding examples of design, process and/or application of magnesium.
