Magic Johnson Foundation Awarding Over 35 Taylor Michaels Scholarships to Deserving Students Thanks to ``A Midsummer Night's Magic''.

Earvin Effay Johnson, Jr. (born August 14, 1959 in Lansing, Michigan), nicknamed Magic
 Foundation will award over 35 deserving minority students with a Taylor Michaels Scholarship for college thanks to money raised from the 15th Annual "A Midsummer Night's Magic."

The annual fundraiser, which includes an all-star basketball game, a Mardi Gras Mardi Gras (mär`dē grä), last day before the fasting season of Lent. It is the French name for Shrove Tuesday. Literally translated, the term means "fat Tuesday" and was so called because it represented the last opportunity for  Gala, a Children's Mardi Gras Gala and a benefit concert starring D'Angelo and Lucy Pearl Lucy Pearl was an R&B supergroup formed in 1999 as the brainchild of former Tony! Toni! TonĂ©! member Raphael Saadiq. The other members of Lucy Pearl were Dawn Robinson (En Vogue) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest). , begins on Friday, August 4 and runs through Sunday, August 6.

 Taylor Michaels, the scholarship program is designed to provide support to college-bound students. Specifically, the scholarship provides monetary support based on need and circumstance as well as the opportunity to participate in a mentoring and internship program.

The colleges and universities that will be represented among this year's scholarship recipients are as follows: UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
, UC Berkeley, Columbia University Columbia University, mainly in New York City; founded 1754 as King's College by grant of King George II; first college in New York City, fifth oldest in the United States; one of the eight Ivy League institutions. , Morehouse College, Spelman College, Texas A&M University and Loyola Marymount University among others.

Events surrounding "A Midsummer Night's Magic" include a Corporate Reception, a Mardi Gras Gala with live jazz and R&B music on the BET Soundstage, street entertainment, casino games, fine cuisine and more. In addition, there will be a Children's Mardi Gras complete with a giant slide, giant moon bounce, train ride, horse rides, carnival games & prizes, arts & crafts, Coca-Cola interactive sport, ferris wheel, merry-go-round and celebrity autograph booths.

This spectacular weekend wraps up by returning to Pauley Pavilion on the campus of UCLA, where it all began 15 years ago. The popular all-star basketball lineup includes Magic Johnson, Allen Iverson, Joe Smith, Gary Payton, Nick Van Exel Nickey (Nick) Maxwell Van Exel (born November 27 1971 in Kenosha, Wisconsin) is a retired American professional basketball player in the NBA. Van Exel, a 6'1" left-handed point guard, was most well known for his flashy style of play and his ability to hit critical shots during , Steve Francis, Vin Baker, Paul Pierce, Bryon Russell, Nick Anderson, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Tracy McGrady and Baron Davis among others.
