) have expanded their business relationship to include the TRICARE Line for Care in the 16-state TRICARE Central Region.

The business, which was won through a competitive process, takes effect on April 1, 2000. Under the agreement, Magellan will offer telephonic nurse advice line services to TRICARE beneficiaries who have questions concerning their health care or health-related topics.

The Magellan Behavioral Health Behavioral health was first used in the 1980's to name the combination of the fields mental health and substance abuse. As an example, an organization serving both mental health and substance abuse clients might refer to its practice as behavioral health or  division of Magellan Health Services, Inc., is currently a subcontractor One who takes a portion of a contract from the principal contractor or from another subcontractor.

When an individual or a company is involved in a large-scale project, a contractor is often hired to see that the work is done.

TriWest's TRICARE Line for Care currently receives approximately 7,000 to 8,000 calls per month and is accessed via a toll free number. Magellan will hire an additional 10 to 20 registered nurses and other staff at its call center to support the new agreement with TriWest.

The registered nurses will answer beneficiaries' health questions and provide health care information. Beneficiaries will also have the option of listening to an audio tape from an extensive library of information on over 400 health topics.
