Magellan Behavioral Health and State of Montana Reach Agreement On Termination of Mental Health Contract.COLUMBIA, Md. and HELENA, Mont.--(BW HealthWire)--March 26, 1999-- Magellan to Cease Montana Operations as of June 30, 1999 Magellan Behavioral Health Behavioral health was first used in the 1980's to name the combination of the fields mental health and substance abuse. As an example, an organization serving both mental health and substance abuse clients might refer to its practice as behavioral health or and the State of Montana announced today that they have reached an agreement in principle on the termination of Magellan's contract to manage the State's Mental Health Access Plan. Under the agreement, the State of Montana will assume financial risk for health care services provided through the program beginning May 1, 1999, and Magellan will cease all operations associated with the contract as of June 30, 1999. Magellan will continue to provide care management services and pay claims through June 30, 1999. The agreement is the result of negotiations between Magellan and the Department of Public Health and Human Services Noun 1. Magellan will retain all liability for claims for service prior to May 1.
