) have formed a new strategic relationship allowing Compaq to incorporate Madge's advanced Token Ring A local area network (LAN) access method developed by IBM. Conforming to the IEEE 802.5 standard, Token Ring uses a token ring access method and connects up to 255 nodes in a star topology at 4, 16 or 100 Mbps.  technology in its future products. The move significantly extends the base of Token Ring users who will use Madge technology in their networks.

Under the terms of the relationship, it is planned that certain Compaq Token Ring adapter A network adapter used in a Token Ring network. See network adapter.  products will incorporate Madge's Ringrunner(tm) silicon technology and its unique single software driver technology to allow Compaq to offer its customers powerful Token Ring solutions. Madge's software driver technology will enable Compaq customers to standardize on one driver across Compaq's TI based Token Ring adapters.
