LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 1999--

) announced today the signing of a three year copy protection agreement.

BBC will use the Macrovision copy protection technology on select video titles, including back catalog catalog, descriptive list, on cards or in a book, of the contents of a library. Ross McGinley, head of video production for BBC Worldwide, commented, "Working with Macrovision demonstrates not only our commitment to supporting the video industry's initiative to fight video piracy piracy, robbery committed or attempted on the high seas. It is distinguished from privateering in that the pirate holds no commission from and receives the protection of no nation but usually attacks vessels of all nations. , but also to the wide range of producers and stars from television who make our video releases possible. Our company is recognized and respected globally which makes it very important to help limit inferior quality copied tapes from reaching the market."

"Working with BBC Worldwide is a very exciting opportunity for us," said Angelina Santoliquido, director of sales and marketing for Macrovision UK Ltd. "The problem of back-to-back copying is particularly prevalent in genres such as children's and comedy where the BBC material is strongest. Using Macrovision's copy protection technology will be a positive step towards helping ensure their products are safeguarded from unauthorized copying."

Since its first commercial use in 1985, over 2.5 billion videocassettes have been encoded with the Macrovision copy protection technology worldwide. More than 400 million videocassettes were encoded in the last year alone. The technology, available in 37 countries, is used by every major Hollywood studio, and by over 1,500 corporate, educational, and special interest rights owners.
