Macmillan Says 'Let the Linux Games Begin!'; Market Leader in Linux Software & Books Offers 'Quake' & 'Civilization'.
Macmillan Computer Publishing USA (MCP) has added the hit computer games "Quake(R)," "Quake II(TM)" "and Civilization(R): Call to Power(TM)" to its comprehensive line of products for the hot Linux operating system.
"Linux, now with more than 10 million users, is becoming mainstream," says Macmillan president Doug Bennett. "Our goal is to enable everyone from novices to power users with everything from an easy-to-install operating system, to Linux technical and game strategy books, to the games themselves -- and to do so inexpensively, in the spirit of the open-source software movement."
Macmillan Computer Publishing USA is the market sales leader in both Linux software and books. Macmillan is the third largest operating system publisher after Microsoft(R) and Apple Computer and the world's largest computer book publisher, selling more than 14 million books yearly around the world. Its BradyGames Strategy Guides are favorites among gamers.
"Quake" and "Quake II" for Linux, from id Software, are being sold separately and bundled with their official mission packs. "Quake: The Offering(TM)" contains "Scourge of Armagon" and "Dissolution of Eternity," while "Quake II: Colossus(TM)" contains "The Reckoning" and "Ground Zero."

Macmillan is also the exclusive North American distributor of Loki Entertainment Software's products including the new Linux version of Civilization(R): Call to Power(TM).

System requirements are: Pentium-based PC, 100MHz or faster; Linux O/S, 16MB RAM for software mode, 24MB for GLQuake mode (requires a 3DFX-based 3D accelerator or other X11 based OpenGL hardware accelerator); 2X CD-ROM drive.
Quake II: Colossus(TM) is currently available at a MSRP of $49.99 wherever software is sold. System requirements are: Pentium-based PC, 166MHz or faster; Linux O/S, 16MB RAM for software mode, 24MB for OpenGL hardware acceleration. A 3DFX-based 3D accelerator or other X11 based OpenGL hardware accelerator.
Civilization(R): Call to Power(TM) is available at an MSRP of $49.95 wherever software is sold. System requirements are: Pentium(R)-based PC (133MHz or faster); Linux O/S; 32MB of RAM; 400MB hard drive space; Quad-speed CD-ROM drive; 16-bit High Color video card with minimum 1 MB of RAM; Internet play requires 28.8 Kbps or faster modem.
