MacNeal-Schwendler names former PDA executive, Thomas Curry, president.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 1995--Dr. Richard H. MacNeal, chairman and chief executive officer of The MacNeal-Schwendler Corp. (ASE:MNS and referred to as MSC) Thursday announced that former PDA Engineering president, Thomas C. Curry, 50, has been named president and chief operating officer of MSC.

MacNeal said that Curry's selection was based on his strong track record in developing and implementing marketing strategies, his intimate knowledge of MSC's marketplace, both its traditional analyst market and the larger overall design market which will be such an important part of MSC's future, and his recognized leadership position in the industry.

Curry has been steadily increasing his corporatewide leadership role since PDA Engineering was acquired by MSC in September 1994.

``Tom played a key part in the recently completed personnel restructuring which is expected to produce a $10 million reduction in annualized operating expenses in the year beginning Feb. 1, 1995. These gains primarily reflect streamlining of management and elimination of redundant positions as PDA was assimilated into MSC,'' MacNeal said.

Prior to joining PDA in 1990, Curry was vice president, marketing for McDonnell Douglas' Manufacturing and Engineering Co. He earlier served in marketing and engineering management positions at Auto-Trol Technology and Air Products and Chemicals Inc.

Curry is a professional engineer (structural) who received his BSME with honors from Rutgers University in 1970.

MacNeal-Schwendler is the largest single provider of finite element analysis (FEA) products to the computer-aided engineering (CAE) market. The company also is a leading provider of other products for the CAE market, including pre- and post-processing, predictive engineering and geometric optimization products.

The company's major product lines are MSC/NASTRAN(TM), MSC/PATRAN(TM), MSC/ARIES(TM), MSC/EMAS(TM) and MSC/DYTRAN(TM), which are used by engineers and designers to model structures and assemblies and then analyze -- prior to manufacture -- their strength, dynamic response and heat transfer characteristics as well as electromagnetic reactions.

MacNeal-Schwendler's products are marketed worldwide through offices in the United States, Europe and the Far East.
