Create a Working Group as a Key Effort in Combating Spam

MX Logic, Inc., a leading provider of innovative email defense solutions that ensure email protection and security for enterprises, service providers, government organizations, resellers and their customers, today revealed that only 3 percent of unsolicited commercial Internet email complied with the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing (CAN-SPAM (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing Act of 2003) A U.S. statute effective January 1, 2004 that allows spammers to be fined up to $6 million. ) Act in February. These latest findings represent no change in CAN-SPAM compliance compared with January data.

MX Logic also came out in support of the Internet Engineering Task Force's (IETF) decision to fast track the creation of a working group to examine Mail Transfer Agent Mail Transfer Agent - Message Transfer Agent  (MTA (1) (Message Transfer Agent or Mail Transfer Agent) The store and forward part of a messaging system. The working group is expected to be formed in six to eight weeks and will focus on measures related to MTA authentication, including examination of proposals for the domain name system (DNS (Domain Name System) A system for converting host names and domain names into IP addresses on the Internet or on local networks that use the TCP/IP protocol. "In February, we saw no improvement in CAN-SPAM compliance over January, making the decision to create an IETF working group a significant development," said Scott Chasin, chief technology officer, MX Logic. "While the CAN-SPAM legislation is to be applauded, winning the war against spam will require a multi-pronged solution that in addition to legislation, must include technology solutions, end-user education and industry cooperation. The formation of an IETF working group will be a solid step in the right direction."

MX Logic continues to participate in the Anti-Spam Research Group The Anti-Spam Research Group (ASRG) is a research group within the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) dedicated to research into curbing spam on an Internet-wide level.
