Water from Southern California's Metropolitan Water District took second place over the weekend in the municipal category in a contest involving drinking water drinking water

supply of water available to animals for drinking supplied via nipples, in troughs, dams, ponds and larger natural water sources; an insufficient supply leads to dehydration; it can be the source of infection, e.g. leptospirosis, salmonellosis, or of poisoning, e.g.
 from around the world.

The public water in Montpelier, Ohio, was tapped as the world's best by judges who tasted samples from as far away as Bosnia.

Eight countries, 23 states and the District of Columbia District of Columbia, federal district (2000 pop. 572,059, a 5.7% decrease in population since the 1990 census), 69 sq mi (179 sq km), on the east bank of the Potomac River, coextensive with the city of Washington, D.C. (the capital of the United States).  were represented at the 13th annual Berkeley Springs International Water Taste in West Virginia, which honored winners in five categories Saturday.

Montpelier, Ohio, won in the municipal category, followed by the Los Angeles-based MWD MWD Metropolitan Water District of Southern California

MWD Molecular Weight Distribution
MWD Military Working Dog
; Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; Canora, Canada; and Kinross Charter Township in Kincheole, Mich.

The bottled-water prize went to Mountain Valley Spring Water of Hot Springs, Ark. The best carbonated water came from Harrogate Spa Water Harrogate Spa Water is England's oldest bottled water manufacturer. It dates back to the 16th Century when the first springs were found to be therapeutic. Harrogate Spa Water is used locally, nationally and internationally, being exported to as far away as Australia.  of Harrogate, Britain. Clear Creek Water Co. of Farmington, N.M., won for purified drinking water, and StoneClear Springs of Vanleer, Tenn., won for package design.

Each sample was judged on six points: appearance, odor, flavor, mouth feel, aftertaste aftertaste /af·ter·taste/ (-tast?) a taste continuing after the substance producing it has been removed.

 and overall impression. The ideal water is colorless, clear and odor-free, with a balanced mouth feel and no single overpowering taste or aftertaste.
