MUSICLAND STORES CORPORATION NAMES NEW OFFICER

 MINNEAPOLIS, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Musicland Stores Corporation (NYSE:MLG) today announced that Marcia F. Appel joined the firm as vice president -- communications and publications.
 Appel's primary responsibilities include corporate public relations, financial relations and publisher of REQUEST, the company's monthly national music magazine with a current circulation base of 500,000. "The rapid growth of Musicland Stores Corporation called for the addition of an officer to coordinate communications with the company's many audiences," said Jack W. Eugster, chairman and chief executive officer. Eugster added that REQUEST, distributed on newsstands throughout the United States and in the company's music stores, also is experiencing accelerated growth in advertising and circulation.
 Appel most recently held the position of executive director of the Association of Area Business Publications, an international association of business-news magazines and newspapers in the United States, Canada, Bermuda and Puerto Rico. She has been the editor or associate publisher at several Twin Cities-based magazines and has held management positions at Control Data and Northwestern Bell Telephone.
 Appel is active in community affairs and has served on a diverse group of boards, task forces and committees and is an adjunct professor at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Minnesota. She is a frequent speaker and panelist on business, communications and women's issues.
