James Joseph Brown (May 3 1933[1][2] – December 25 2006), commonly referred to as "The Godfather of Soul" and " Band by playing "blistering saxophone solos," a news release says. The release calls Parker and his band "the tightest little funk orchestra on earth." Parker got his musical pedigree not only from Brown, but by playing with George Clinton, Bootsy's Rubber Band Bootsy's Rubber Band was a P-Funk band led by pioneering bassist Bootsy Collins. It also included his brother, Catfish Collins, Kash Waddy, Joel Johnson, Robert Johnson, Gary "Mudbone" Cooper and The Horny Horns. The group was formed in 1976. and most recently, Prince. He's also collaborated with Ray Charles, Ani DiFranco, James Taylor, the Dave Matthews Band and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Maceo's brother Melvin was responsible for Brown and his saxophonist brother's relationship. As the story in the news release goes, Brown stumbled upon Melvin's drum beats at a club. Brown offered him a future gig if they met again and Parker could make Brown remember him. That chance came a year later, and indeed, Melvin's drumming was memorable enough to land him a spot in Brown's band. Neither brother knew the gig would last so long or be so formative.
