MUROC BOARD WON'T GO TO ELECTION REPLACEMENT TO BE NAMED.

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  plan to appoint a replacement for former trustee Janet Muckerheide rather than hold an election.

Muckerheide, who was first appointed and then elected to the board in 2002, resigned from the board because of her husband's military transfer.

The deadline to apply for the seat is 4 p.m. Sept. 25. Applications can be picked up at the district office, 17100 Foothill Ave.

Muckerheide held one of two seats that must be filled by Edwards Air Force Base residents. Applicants must be 18 or over and registered to vote.

The board is scheduled to hold a special board meeting Oct. 1 to interview the candidates and appoint someone. The new board member will be sworn in at the board's regular meeting Oct. 8.

The appointee APPOINTEE. A person who is appointed or selected for a particular purpose; as the appointee under a power, is the person who is to receive the benefit of the trust or power.  will serve until the next regularly scheduled board election next year.

Muckerheide's husband is an Air Force engineer who was transferred to the Pentagon Pentagon

The board has a high turnover rate because trustees are often spouses of Edwards Air Force Base personnel, who are reassigned every few years.

The school board has to have two seats filled by Edwards Air Force Base residents, two by residents from Boron boron (bōr`ŏn) [New Gr. from borax], chemical element; symbol B; at. no. 5; at. wt. 10.81; m.p. about 2,300°C;; sublimation point about 2,550°C;; sp. gr. 2.3 at 25°C;; valence +3. , and one from North Edwards.
