MUROC BOARD TO INTERVIEW FOR SUPERINTENDENT TRUSTEES, ADVISORY PANEL TO QUESTION FIVE APPLICANTS.

Byline: KAREN MAESHIRO Staff Writer

NORTH EDWARDS -- Muroc Joint Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  trustees are scheduled to meet today to conduct interviews with five people who have applied for the superintendent's job.

The five applicants will be interviewed by the board as well as by an advisory community panel made up of six parents, two students, two principals, a district administrative staffer, and one representative each from the two employee unions.

``They have sufficient candidates of the quality that they will probably make a selection,'' interim Superintendent Greg GREG Great Egg Harbor National Scenic and Recreational River (US National Park Service)  Lundeen said. ``I think they got a good candidate pool.''

The board and advisory panel will interview the applicants separately. These sessions will not be open to the public, Lundeen said.

The panel will present their findings about what they thought about the candidates to the board in closed session, Lundeen said.

The board is seeking to replace former Superintendent Mike Summerbell, who retired in mid-August Noun 1. mid-August - the middle part of August

Lundeen is a former superintendent of the Victor Valley Union High School District, where he worked for about six years before resigning in June with a contract buyout Buyout

Summerbell retired after 11 years at Muroc and two years in the top post.

The superintendent search process has taken several turns.

Trustees initially sought applicants from among district employees, drawing two applicants, but one then decided to leave the district and the other withdrew from consideration, trustees said.

The search was then expanded to include applicants from outside the school district, but the trustees did not find a suitable candidate from among the 15 people who applied.

Muroc then began talks with the superintendent of the El Segundo El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and  Unified School District, who was planning to retire, to work as an interim superintendent, but he, too, withdrew his name from consideration.
