MURDER TRIAL SET FOR TEEN BOY SUSPECT IN DEATH OF EX-TALK-SHOW HOST IN A.V. MOTEL ROOM.

LANCASTER - A 17-year-old has been ordered to stand trial for murder in the fatal stabbing of a former television personality who was known for helping troubled youths.

Paul Romando is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 25 after he was found unfit to be tried as a juvenile in the slaying of Field Terry Simes, 41, who hosted a talk show on KPAL in 1998. ``According to according to

 the defendant, they met on the street,'' prosecutor Greg Denton said. ``The victim was involved in a church outreach program that tried to help kids in trouble, and they may have met that way.

When Romando was arrested May 5, he told detectives he stabbed Simes after the man made a sexual overture. However, Simes' relatives have told investigators he was not gay.

Friends and relatives said the victim was a faithful Christian who spent much of his time visiting jail inmates and ex-convicts and trying to set them on the right track. He frequently rented rooms for ex-convicts and others with nowhere to live, they said.

Romando was tracked down through his girlfriend, who had been seen at a picnic ground in the Angeles National Forest The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los  helping a young man remove the license plate from Simes' BMW sedan and ditching the victim's property into a Dumpster.

Authorities said Simes' killer robbed him of $400 in cash, a watch, rings, a necklace and his car.
