MUPPETS' 'ISLAND' TRULY WORTH TREASURING.Byline: Chris Hewitt Knight-Ridder Tribune News Wire I would prefer seeing Fozzie Bear in a movie over just about any flesh-and-blood actor I can name. Kermit the Frog Kermit the Frog is a Muppet who was first introduced in 1955 and is one of puppeteer Jim Henson's most famous and beloved creations. Kermit was performed by Henson until his death in 1990. Since then, he has been performed by Steve Whitmire. is Capt. Actually, being in the audience is just fine. The humor is the punny, irreverent stuff you remember from "The Muppet Show" ("He's dead?" Ratso says as he checks out a corpse. "And this is supposed to be a kids' movie!"). The action moves quickly, the running gags are plentiful, and Kermit and Miss Piggy still are entangled en·tan·gle tr.v. en·tan·gled, en·tan·gling, en·tan·gles 1. It does seem a little unfair that "Muppet Treasure Island" withholds Miss Piggy from us for the first 75 minutes. The pig would have been just the thing to perk up the middle part of the movie, which begins to drag under the weight of too many sub-Gilbert and Sullivan musical numbers. It's also too bad that Jennifer Saunders (Edina, from TV's "Absolutely Fabulous") disappears after the first couple of scenes. She's uproarious as a roll-with-the-punches innkeeper An individual who, as a regular business, provides accommodations for guests in exchange for reasonable compensation. An inn is defined as a place where lodgings are made available to the public for a charge, such as a hotel, motel, hostel, or guest house. and, with her fake nose and enormously padded behind, she should be declared an honorary Muppet. "Muppet Treasure Island" is good but not great, and that, undoubtedly, has to do with the absence of the late Jim Henson. You'll miss Henson when you hear Kermit speak - it's an adequate impersonation Impersonation Patroclus wore the armor of Achilles against the Trojans to encourage the disheartened Greeks. [Gk. The movie misses Henson's good-hearted inventiveness, too, but there's ample evidence that the second generation of Muppeteers are almost as good at pulling the strings as the first.
