MUNROE PASSES BIG TEST; SHE FARES WELL IN NATIONAL TOURNEY.

Byline: Rizza Yap Daily News Staff Writer

Jenny Munroe missed her mom's cooking, but spending Thanksgiving with a former neighbor sure beat eating at Boston Market Boston Market (known before 1995 as Boston Chicken), headquartered in Golden, Colorado, is a chain of American fast-food restaurants. Founded in December 1985 in Newton, Massachusetts, the chain grew rapidly in the early and mid-1990s, filed bankruptcy in the late 1990s, and  a fourth time in four days or digging into the hotel's Turkey Day buffet.

Munroe, who last month led the Hart High girls' tennis team to its first Foothill League title in 10 years, spent Thanksgiving break away from home but with good reason. She and her father/coach, Dave, flew to St. Louis, Mo., last Tuesday Last Tuesday is a Christian melodic punk rock band hailing from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. They played their final show on March 10th, 2007. Last Tuesday was formed in 1999 in Harrisburg, P.A.  for Munroe's first-ever national tennis tournament. (Mom, Jan, stayed home and spent the holiday with friends.) Competing in the 14-and-under division, ninth grader Munroe came away with four wins in six matches at the National Indoors Tournament.

``It was pretty exciting - it showed where I place compared to other girls throughout the nation,'' Munroe said.

What Munroe discovered was potential for more impressive performances in future national tourneys. At St. Louis, she advanced to the round of 32 (among 128 participants) before her first loss - 6-3, 6-0 to second-seeded Megan Bradley of Columbia, Miss., ranked fourth in the nation.

In the back draw, Munroe defeated Melissa Back of Houston 7-6, 6-1 then upset No. 12 seed Shadisha Robinson of New York New York, state, United States

Since the event was her first national tournament, Munroe was not seeded but advanced further than any other Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. In 1996 she was ranked No. 20 in the 14-and-under category by the Southern California Tennis Association. On Dec. 17 she will enter the 22nd Annual Claremont Junior Tournament, her last local competition of the year. Nine days later she and her mother will drive to Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl The Fiesta Bowl, now sponsored by Tostitos tortilla chips (a Frito-Lay product), is a United States college football game played annually since 1971. ``Jenny played a lot of good tennis back in St. Louis, and it proved to her that she can compete with these (nationally ranked) girls,'' Dave Munroe said. ``It was the first time she had played on an indoor court, and she was probably nervous but it didn't show in her play. She seldom double-faulted or made unforced errors. She kept her composure, didn't get down on herself.''

Aside from tennis, Munroe also got a dose of hockey during her weekend in Missouri. On Saturday she attended her first high school hockey game, cheering on her former neighbor. (Munroe wasn't too impressed by the sport but was glad her friend was able to score a goal that night.)

Hockey didn't strike her fancy, but Munroe does have a passion for basketball - although tennis will always be her first love. She had planned to play for Hart's junior varsity team For the American rock band, see .

Munroe was diagnosed with mallet toes mallet toe A flexion deformity of the distal interphalangeal joint of the lesser toes, affecting 1 toe or 2 adjacent toes; MT is less common than hammer toe–a flexion deformity of the proximal interphalangeal joint–and becomes symptomatic in adolescence , a condition where the second toes grow crookedly, making them vulnerable to blisters and pain. Dave Munroe said Jenny probably will undergo surgery in January. Until then she will concentrate on tennis and on keeping up her 4.3 GPA GPA
