E3 is the world's largest multimedia conference, typically drawing hundreds of game makers, educational software developers and computer manufacturers as

exhibitors, and tens of thousands of attendees.

The show got its start in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  in 1995 and was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center The Los Angeles Convention Center (abbreviated LACC) is a convention center in downtown Los Angeles. The switch was seen as a blow to both the prestige of L.A.'s multimedia industry, and indeed to the city's standing as a locale for top trade shows.

At the time of the move, E3's organizers, the Interactive Digital Software Association, said the show had outgrown the Los Angeles Convention Center. IDSA IDSA Infectious Diseases Society of America

In response, Los Angeles began an intense lobbying campaign to get the show back, an effort helped by poor attendance at this year's conference in Atlanta.

``The significance of this is that the industry is here,'' said one official, asking not to be identified. ``This industry was born here and they (IDSA officials) learned it's hard to leave the entertainment and technology capital.''

``This is a major feather in our cap,'' Kyser said. ``It's very, very important for a variety of reasons and it's not just dollars and cents. It's making a statement that you have to be in Los Angeles.

``They left here complaining about the facilities and they found a larger space in Atlanta, but attendance went to hell. When you look at the sheer numbers, it makes sense to be in Los Angeles and a little more crowded than in Atlanta with no one there,'' Kyser said.

News of E3's return was met with strong support by industry representatives.

The ``Los Angeles area is the digital epicenter for multimedia activity,'' said Molly Lavik, associate director of the Los Angeles New Media Roundtable, a trade group of multimedia companies. ``To say we're pleased to hear this announcement would be accurate.''
