MTEL'S ANNUAL REVENUE EXCEEDS $90 MILLION; UP 36 PERCENT IN 1991
JACKSON, Miss., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp (NASDAQ: MTEL) announced today that its revenue for the 12-month period ended Dec. 31, 1991 totaled $90,441,011 -- a 36 percent increase over 1990 annual revenue of $66,300,201.
Revenue for the fourth quarter 1991 was $24,754,286 vs. $19,893,465 for the fourth quarter of 1990, an increase of approximately 24 percent.
"Mtel had an excellent year with revenue growth driven by a 46 percent increase in subscribers to the messaging services of our SkyTel Corp. subsidiary," said J. Robert Fugate, chief financial officer of Mtel. "We're confident that continued demand for SkyPager, SkyTalk and SkyWord -- as well as newer products such as Message Card and SkyStream -- will keep the company on target for its stated objective of profitability in the fourth quarter of this year."
Fugate added that "Mtel's net loss for 1991 was less than half the net loss for the previous year and, as expected, the company achieved positive operating cash flow for the year." Net loss for 1991 was $11,059,908 or 36 cents a share, compared with $25,534,306, or 90 cents per share, in 1990.
For the fourth quarter 1991, net loss was $4,999,636, or 15 cents per share, vs. $9,030,780, or 32 cents a share for the fourth quarter 1990.
Mtel had positive operating cash flow of $2.7 million in 1991-- up from approximately $6.9 million of negative operating cash flow in 1990, according to Fugate.
As of Dec. 31, 1991, Mtel had 181,200 paging and voice messaging units in service worldwide. This figure includes 123,200 SkyPager units and 20,700 SkyTalk voice messaging units in the U.S., as well as 37,300 paging subscribers in the United Kingdom.
Mtel, headquartered in Jackson, is engaged in businesses that include nationwide paging and voice messaging services (provided through SkyTel Corp.) in the U.S.; nationwide paging services in the U.K.; international messaging services provided through Mtel International; an investment in American Mobile Satellite Corp. (AMSC), and other mature telecommunications services.
