MTA TO DISTRIBUTE PINE SEEDLINGS TO
RAIL PASSENGERS ON EARTH DAY, APRIL 22
BALTIMORE, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Metro and MARC riders will be able to take part in Earth Day 1992 by planting a symbol of hope for future generations.
On Wednesday, April 22, Mass Transit Administration employees will pass out loblolly pine seedlings at the Charles Center Metro station from 4 to 6 p.m. in observance of Earth Day. MARC riders can pick up the free seedlings that afternoon at the Martin Airport and Edgewood stations.
The state of Maryland's Buckingham Forest Tree Nursery in Anne Arundel County donated the young plants, which should be planted within a day or so of their receipt. An instruction card which gives care and planting information accompanies each seedling.
Throughout April, Earth Month, each agency of the Maryland Department of Transportation is sponsoring an environmental activity, it was recently announced by Transportation Secretary O. James Lighthizer. The MTA's sister agency, the Motor Vehicle Administration, cleaned up and planted trees at Gunpowder Falls State Park April 18.
