``The city of Santa Clarita already boasts over 22 miles of bike and pedestrian trails,'' Debbie Helbig, the city's project development coordinator, said in a statement. ``It is our goal not only to increase this figure, but to truly transform Santa Clarita into a more pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly community.

``Not only will this ease traffic and pollution concerns, but it will result in a healthier community as well.''
