The first public release of a translator to Scheme by Matt Birkholz, Jim Miller, and Ron Weiss, written at Digital Equipment Corporation's Cambridge Research Laboratory runs Wright (http://wrightaroundthecorner.com); a licensed marriage and family therapist and well-known author; works alongside his wife Judy, in providing counselling services in their clinic in Minnesota. While Wright has published several books, he was keen to revise one particular book recently, and he didn't quite know where to start. The book, entitled en·ti·tle tr.v. en·ti·tled, en·ti·tling, en·ti·tles 1. To give a name or title to. 2. To furnish with a right or claim to something: , "Will My Child Grow Up Okay?" was one that Wright was keen to assess but felt he was too close to the material to be entirely objective. This is where MagneticTime's MT1 became invaluable. MT1 enabled Wright to objectively assess the material in a time-effective manner and resulted in him identifying more quickly where changes were needed, thus enabling Wright to produce a revised publication more quickly. The original manuscript manuscript, a handwritten work as distinguished from printing. The oldest manuscripts, those found in Egyptian tombs, were written on papyrus; the earliest dates from c.3500 B.C. for "Will My Child Grow Up Okay?" was naturally a large file being an entire published book. While he was initially concerned that this would be an issue, Thomas Wright found that MT1 had no problem handling such a large file, "I used MagneticTime's (http://www.magnetictime.com) MT1 to convert the entire manuscript into an MP3 file. While the file was large, at 82 megabytes, it was not as large as I had expected. The MP3 settings on MT1 are quite lean. The resulting audio file was 6 hours long!" By listening to the manuscript in the car over the next few weeks, Thomas got "a good overall sense of what needed to be done to update the material. It was a fascinating experience to "hear" my manuscript in someone else's voice. I often thought, "boy, that's good material!" as if I were hearing someone else's lecture." Listening to his manuscript on the move meant that Wright was able to maximize his time and thereby greatly increasing his productivity. Wright found it easier to view his work objectively when he heard it in someone else's voice, other than his own. It has allowed him to critically assess the areas for improvement, and he is currently working on his revised book. Having used other text-to-speech software in the past, Thomas Wright was familiar with the concept prior to using MT1. However, he believes that "the vocal inflection inflection, in grammar. In many languages, words or parts of words are arranged in formally similar sets consisting of a root, or base, and various affixes. Thus walking, walks, walker have in common the root walk and the affixes -ing, -s, and within Platinum Voice is far superior to voices in other products." He felt this was important, as the flow of thought in hearing his manuscript was vital in compiling com·pile tr.v. com·piled, com·pil·ing, com·piles 1. To gather into a single book. 2. To put together or compose from materials gathered from several sources: his thoughts for the revised edition. Thomas Wright also thought that "having the MagneticTime button on a menu bar in Word was amazing a·maze v. a·mazed, a·maz·ing, a·maz·es v.tr. 1. To affect with great wonder; astonish. See Synonyms at surprise. 2. Obsolete To bewilder; perplex. v.intr. !" Software products such as these, should provide relevant benefits to the user, and be relatively easy to use. Through ongoing development of MT1, an additional feature will be launched whereby users will be able to create a play list of chapters, to organize and sort large manuscripts.
