MT. SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE RELAYS NOT QUITE READY TO QUIT.

Chadd Smith started the season with a flourish, clearing a lifetime best of 6 feet, 9 inches to win the high jump in the San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  Indoor Games in January.

However, the Camarillo High junior says he does not expect to jump anywhere close to this Ventura County-leading mark in the Mt. San Antonio College Mt. San Antonio College (commonly called Mt. SAC; pronounced as the word "sack") is a community college located in the Los Angeles suburb of Walnut, California, next to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona which is just over a hill.

 and Smith will be unable to jump for four to six months. He will miss the Pacific View League finals as well as the Southern Section championships.

``I feel rusty and it is like a new experience each time,'' Smith said. ``Before, I was really getting mad at myself, but this is not going to stop me. This is just another bar for me to clear. I am looking forward to coming back at 100 percent.''

, Haleck, a junior, became the first Thousand Oaks vaulter to clear 15 feet. Morgan, the two-time defending Foothill League champion, has gone 14-7.

Haleck is among four Thousand Oaks vaulters who will compete today. --Triple threat: Porchea Carroll of Rio Mesa and Erin Brzezinski of Thousand Oaks will compete in the 100, 200 and long jump in a preview of an anticipated multievent showdown in the Ventura County championships in two weeks.

--Oh brother: Twins Tom and Robert Kubler will go head-to-head in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters. Tom, the defending state and Southern Section Division V cross country champion, attends Viewpoint and Robert runs for Crespi.

--Double trouble: Juniors Wes Felix of Valencia and Seth Amoo of Highland will take part in sprint doubles. Felix, a Colorado state finalist at Overland High last season, has run 10.85 and 21.85 in the 100 and 200. Amoo, who has clocked 21.83 in the 200, will run the half-lap event in addition to moving up to the 400.

--Desert duel: Cassie Ramirez of Highland and Rosanna Kirkendall of Lancaster, who finished 1-2 in the Golden League cross country finals, will compete in the 3,000 and 1,500, respectively.

The Cal State Northridge-bound Kirkendall, a state 1,600 qualifier as a junior, is coming off a personal-best 5:03.65 in the Arcadia Invitational. Marmonte League rivals Jennifer Turk of Newbury Park and Jaclyn Pedersen of Royal are other area 1,500 entrants.
