SAC INVITATIONAL: SIRAKI PLAYING IT COOL NATION'S LARGEST PREP CROSS COUNTRY MEET STARTS FRIDAY.Byline: Kirby Lee Special to the Daily News Anita Siraki isn't gunning for the course record at prep cross country's premier midseason meet on Saturday. But that doesn't mean the Hoover High senior won't take advantage of the opportunity if it presents itself at the Mt. San Antonio College Mt. San Antonio College (commonly called Mt. SAC; pronounced as the word "sack") is a community college located in the Los Angeles suburb of Walnut, California, next to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona which is just over a hill. Maybe so, but the the defending state champion says she's in better shape than last year. Weather figures to play a pivotal role. A fast time could be negated by warm and smoggy conditions; cool weather could lead to brisk times. Siraki ran her Mt. SAC mark last year under overcast skies. Two weeks ago, Siraki, who has narrowed her college choices to Stanford, UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University) UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX and UC Irvine, broke a course record at the Kenny Staub Invitational with good weather, eclipsing the mark set by Agoura's Amy Skieresz, a seven- time NCAA NCAA abbr. National Collegiate Athletic Association cross country and track champion at Arizona. ``I wasn't worried about a record at Kenny Staub. I was just running,'' said Siraki, who will depart for an official visit to Stanford on Saturday night. ``When people try for records, it messes up racing strategy.'' The two-day meet, the largest in the nation with nearly 10,000 runners, begins on Friday at 2 p.m., highlighted by the girls' and boys' sweepstakes races in Divisions III, IV and V at 4:45 p.m. Competition resumes Saturday at 7:15 a.m., with combined Division I and II team and individual sweepstakes at 9 a.m. The boys' team sweepstakes on Saturday feature a matchup between Long Beach Poly and Canyon, the state's top teams in Division I and II, respectively.
