MSNBC.com Selects Copyright Clearance Center's Rightslink as Its Digital Rights Management Solution.
DANVERS, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 2001
Online Licensing and Content Delivery Service Lets Customers
Instantly Reuse Rich Multimedia Content from MSNBC.com
Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), the world's largest licensing agent for text reproduction rights, and MSNBC.com, the #1 Internet news site, today announced that Rightslink, CCC's digital rights management solution, will soon launch on MSNBC.com.
"We took a long, hard look at digital rights management options on the market," said Charles Tillinghast, director of sales and business development for MSNBC.com. "Rightslink is by far the best solution out there for licensing and monetizing Web-based content, plus CCC is a name we know and trust."
MSNBC.com will use Rightslink to instantly license and deliver digital content, such as interactive links and original news articles, directly to customers. An interactive link is a rich media package placed on the licensee's Web site. A Web site visitor can use the link to receive a multimedia news presentation that combines audio, video and text on a particular topic. For example, the MSNBC interactive "On the Front Lines" shows deployments of troops in the Middle East against a map of the region.
"MSNBC.com has created a multimedia news product that millions of people turn to 24/7," said Bob Weiner, CCC's vice president of corporate sales and publisher relations. "We're pleased that Rightslink will be playing a key role in making that product even more accessible to MSNBC consumers."
Rightslink licenses and delivers online content electronically to end-users. By clicking on a link located near a news item on MSNBC.com, customers can obtain instant permission to reuse that content in print and digital formats.
