MSG Capital acquires Kagan World Media.


Perhaps the fortunes of Kagan World Media and will improve now that MSG MSG: see glutamic acid.  Capital Corporation has acquired the media, communications and research company from Primedia, which acquired Kagan in late 2000. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Kagan publishes more than 40 high-priced newsletters and databases covering the cable, broadcast, motion picture, home video, newspaper, and wireless industries. It also sponsors conferences, provides appraisals, and offers litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right. Last September, when R.R. Bowker purchased another Primedia company, Simba Information Inc., Megan St. John, a former Primedia executive, said that when Primedia acquired Kagan it created a new subsidiary, Media Central, which subsumed Kagan and Simba.

At the time (NL/NL 9/30/03), we reported: "Media Central eliminated the Simba marketing department and centralized all marketing for its diverse properties in one group.

"Of the Kagan-Simba marriage, Megan St. John observed, 'Although Media Central/Primedia attempted to integrate the backroom of the two operations, the result was incomplete at best."
