MRS to hold 2006 Spring Meeting April 17-21; technical program and exhibition scheduled.

The Materials Research Society (MRS MRS - Modifiable Representation System.

An integration of logic programming into Lisp.

["A Modifiable Representation System", M. Genesereth et al, HPP 80-22, CS Dept Stanford U 1980].
), Warrendale, PA, will hold its 2006 Spring Meeting on April 17-21 at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden , CA.

The meeting is designed to highlight advances in microelectronic device processing and fabrication fabrication (fab´rikā´shn),
n the construction or making of a restoration.
; materials research for photonics, electronics, magnetics, and sensors; complex and biological nanoscale materials and systems; and materials for energy and environmental applications. The technical program will include 35 symposia and three technical forums. Two forums will focus on nanotechnology education Nanotechnology education is being offered by more and more universities around the world. The first program involving nanotechnology was offered by the University of Toronto's Engineering Science program, where nanotechnology could be taken as an option.  and risk assessment, while the third is titled "Frontiers of Materials Research," and will spotlight topics at the forefront of materials science and engineering Materials science and engineering

A multidisciplinary field concerned with the generation and application of knowledge relating to the composition, structure, and processing of materials to their properties and uses.
.

The technical program will feature new and developing areas of materials research as well as some well-established topics. Topics in the microelectronics symposia will range from amorphous and polycrystalline silicon Polycrystalline silicon or polysilicon or poly-Si or simply poly (in context) is a material consisting of multiple small silicon crystals.

Polycrystalline silicon can be one of the purest elements in the world; it may be as much as 99.9999999+% pure.
thin films to chalcogenide phase-change materials Symposia on electronic, magnetic, and optoelectronic materials will present state-of-the-art organic, inorganic, and hybrid materials systems, as well as the latest breakthroughs in nanowires and nanostructured materials systems. Complex materials behavior and biological nanoscale systems will be explored through topics ranging from nanomanufacturing to mechanics of nanoscale systems to biological machines and nanoscale probes for molecular bio-imaging. An additional focus will be placed on how materials research impacts energy and environmental applications, such as hydrogen storage

Main article: Hydrogen economy

Hydrogen storage is the main technological problem of a viable hydrogen economy. Some attention has been given to the role of hydrogen to provide grid energy storage for unpredictable energy sources, like
materials and materials used in water purification. To complement the technical program, introductory tutorials will be provided.

The exhibition will be held April 18-20. Over 100 international exhibitors will display a range of equipment, instrumentation, products, software, publications, and services.

Registration will be available in January. For more information, visit www.mrs.org.
