 MRS TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES $12.5 MILLION TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT
 AWARD FROM DARPA
 CHELMSFORD, Mass., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Wright Laboratory, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, agent for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), has awarded a 3-1/2 year, $12.5 million contract to MRS Technology, Inc., a pioneer in developing systems used to produce flat panel displays now widely employed in laptop computers and flat color televisions, has been awarded. The award will fund the development of a high-performance, high-throughput, large-area lithography tool for the manufacture of flat displays for U.S. military applications.
 "The Department of Defense has identified flat panel displays as a critical defense technology," said Griffith Resor, president of MRS Technology. "Our contract is part of DARPA's effort to keep his technology at the leading edge."
 MRS Technology produces high-performance stitching aligners, machines designed for the high volume production of large, color, flat displays.
 The contract will be managed by the Electronics Division, Manufacturing Directorate, Wright Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
 The MRS contract was awarded as part of the DARPA High Definition Program Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) solicitation of 1991. This program, which seeks to award approximately $75 million in contracts in FY91 to manufacturers and researchers of high definition systems, is funded by a special vote of Congress.
 MRS Technology, Inc., based in Chelmsford, Mass., was founded in 1986 by developers of the first commercially successful wafer stepper system for integrated circuits. MRS Technology markets and sells the Model 5000 PanelPrinter and the Model 4500 PanelPrinter directly in the United States and has distributors in Europe, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
