MRI JUMPS AHEAD OF NORTH AMERICAN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT

MRI JUMPS AHEAD OF NORTH AMERICAN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT
SAN DIEGO, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- MRI Medical Technologies Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MMTEF; Vancouver: MMY) announced today it has entered into a joint venture to establish Wellness International Inc., a chemical dependency facility with a psychiatric unit, subject to Vancouver Stock Exchange approval. Wellness International Inc. will initially operate a 50-bed hospital bilingual program located at Las Playas, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
The joint venture includes the Contreras Family and their Ernest Contreras Hospital, which is internationally recognized as one of Mexico's most innovative, prestigious and well-respected health providers. The gross income figure for the 1993 calendar year is projected to be in excess of $3,000,000 U.S.
This drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, located in Mexico, is extremely competitively priced for the usual 28-day stay required for treatment. The typical charge at this facility is between $6,000-$7,000 for the full period including aftercare, compared to charges as high as $28,000 for the same 28-day stay in the United States.
The competitive advantage is best described by the contracts already in hand, which includes patients from as far away as Ontario, Canada, under current contracts with their Provincial Health Ministry.
This rehabilitation facility is a head start on the North American Free Trade Agreement, which the world is watching, since it incorporates a Canadian public company (MRI Medical Technologies Inc.) with its 100 percent-owned U.S. subsidiary (Medically Related Developments Inc.) in a joint venture (Wellness International Inc.) in a Mexico-based facility (Contreras Hospital).
