MR. CUES HOSTING ROSTER OF ROCK BANDS.Byline: Greg Botonis Staff Writer LANCASTER - Antelope Valley fans of '80s and '90s rockers can see their favorite bands without driving 50 miles to Los Angeles. The billiard hall Mr. Cues hosted rock band Warrant in March followed by former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clark, and then George Lynch, who went solo with Lynch Mob after leaving the heavy metal band Dokken. Coming up this week is Sublime Remembered, featuring some of Sublime's original members. ``People are really liking the fact that '80s and '90s bands are coming back,'' said production coordinator Norma Cook. ``It's very rare to find that kind of (concert) up here in the A.V.'' Sublime Remembered will perform Friday with two bands opening for them at Mr. Cues, 2033 W. Ave. J. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance. Cook said the club is averaging a concert every three weeks. He hopes to continue booking bands from the '80s and '90s but has booked, and will book, bands from other genres he thinks will interest Antelope Valley residents. Mr. Cues has been at its current location for 7 1/2 years and recently expanded its sound system to accommodate concerts. ``It's just been something we've always wanted to do,'' said Mr. Cues owner Joe Aliberto. ``We had the room.'' The hall in the past has hosted everything from punk to modern rock. The shows have drawn 150 to 500. ``People don't want to drive to Los Angeles and pay those high ticket prices when they can see the same bands here and pay reasonable prices,'' Cook said. |
