MPB ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION

 KEENE, N.H., Nov. 23 ~PRNewswire~ -- MPB Corporation announced today that a definitive agreement has been reached through which it will acquire certain assets of the U.S. jet engine bearing operations of the Torrington Company, a subsidiary of Ingersoll-Rand Company. Terms of the transaction were not announced.
 "This purchase improves our position in the aerospace markets, both commercial and military," said Scott Mathot, president, MPB Corporation. "It will enable us to provide a full line of bearings for jet engine manufacturers and make us more effective in serving the needs of all our aerospace customers."
 The transaction is scheduled to be completed January, 1993, subject to certain conditions, including completion of governmental review. The purchase includes manufacturing equipment and inventory. The manufacturing assets will be relocated from Torrington's plant in Newington, Conn., to MPB's Split Ballbearing division in Lebanon, N.H. "All necessary steps will be taken with the customers affected by this purchase to assure continuity of service," said Mathot.
 MPB Corporation, a subsidiary of The Timken Company, is based in Keene, N.H. MPB is a leading U.S. supplier of precision and super- precision ball and straight roller bearings for aerospace, computer and medical equipment markets.
