NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A family-friendly night at the movies could be easier to plan with the arrival of an online rating system for parents.

Parents today are more concerned about the type of entertainment their children are consuming than they were a decade ago, said Rod Gustafson, president of Parents Preview.

``It's really reaching a whole new level of interest,'' he said.

``We're not just counting the number of gunshots or sex scenes,'' he said.

``The Pacifier,'' which is rated PG, for example, was given an overall ``B-'' grade on Parents Preview. The movie is also broken down and graded in categories like ``Violence'' and ``Drugs/Alcohol.''

Research by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board shows 92 percent of parents monitor what type of video games their children play.

ESRB this month added a rating to its system to give parents a more specific idea of video game content. The ``E10+'' rating bridges the gap between ``E'' for everyone and ``T'' for teens.
