MOVIE CREWS TO SHOW SPECIAL EFFECT-IVENESS : EXPO FACTS.

This year marks the biggest flood of effects-heavy films ever to hit the box office. For the studios, it's a gamble to see whether the public will flock flock

For Hollywood's behind-the-scenes crews, it's just a matter of doing their job. Showcasing the tools and technology used by Tinseltown's production crews, Variety's ShowBiz Expo West will kick off today at the Los Angeles Convention Center The Los Angeles Convention Center (abbreviated LACC) is a convention center in downtown Los Angeles. The LACC hosts annual events such as the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, and was best known to video games fans as host to E3 until its cessation in 2006. .

Nearly 25,000 people are expected to flock downtown for the three-day event three-day event

Hundreds of products will be launched at the show. Further pushing the technology behind photography, Panavision will unveil its new Millennium 35mm sync-sound film camera system today at the conference. The design and manufacturing firm, based in Woodland Hills, specializes in high-precision camera systems for the film and television industries.

``We've expanded the digital technology arena, both on the floor and in the programs, because that's where the biggest advances have been made in the past year,'' said Beth-Ellen Keyes, director of the conference program for Variety.

Indeed, a separate section on the center floor will be devoted to the digital revolution, and it will feature new products used to create computer-generated effects, animation, editing and sound mixing. This free-standing area will include exhibits of such firms as Eastman Kodak/Cineon, Digiscope, OCS OCS - Object Compatibility Standard  and Silicon Graphics.

The event also will debut the ShowBiz Digital Theater, a 300-seat auditorium auditorium

 with screenings of the latest work of participating exhibitors, particularly those in the effects field. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities.  Ninja'' and ``Volcano.''

In addition, the event will feature classes throughout the day. The courses include:
