John Burroughs High School John Burroughs High School is a public high school located in Burbank, California. Emilio Urioste, Jr. is the current principal. The school was built in the 1920's, but wasn't established as a high school until 1948. The school was named after naturalist John Burroughs.  said goodbye Friday to a beloved teacher who had taught there since the school opened 51 years ago - and was still teaching days before his death this week at age 75.

``He was a man of vision. He was a teacher's teacher who loved the profession more than anyone I knew,'' said David Goodlaw, a U.S. history and auto mechanics An auto mechanic or motor mechanic in Australian English is a mechanic who specialises in automobile maintenance, repair, and sometimes modification. Marshall began teaching as a journalism instructor at Burroughs when it opened in 1948.

He tried retirement one summer in 1990 before returning to the Burbank campus to teach advanced-placement U.S. history for one period a day to students who could have been his grandchildren GRANDCHILDREN, domestic relations. ``He was just a very gentle man,'' said Judy Barton, office manager at Burroughs and a former student of Marshall's. ``You could always see him preparing for class in late August.''

He also was a descendant of the brother of John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

```He lived through history. He met two presidents and served in World War II,'' said Ashley Goldberg, 17, who was a student of Marshall's last year. ``That was one of the most interesting classes I ever took at Burroughs.''
Jennifer Jenkins, 17, said she looked forward to each class Marshall taught.
``He knew everything,'' Jenkins said. ``He told us stories. It was like your grandfather telling you stories.''
Marshall was active in the Burbank Teachers Association, fighting for higher pay and greater respect for the profession. In 1980, he played a key role in the Burbank teachers' strike.
``There were so many times he stood in front of the Board of Education and spoke not only on behalf of himself but of all teachers in Burbank,'' said Tim Brehm, a photography instructor and yearbook adviser for Burroughs. ``No other person in the district stands out in importance for what he did for teachers.''
During the memorial service, weeping students clutched bouquets of red roses and white carnations as they filed past Marshall's open casket. Among them were colleagues who described Marshall as an inspiration to generations of teachers.
