MOTOROLA AND DSC EXPAND AGREEMENT: TARGET NEW MARKETS WITH EMX 2500 NEW CELLULAR SWITCH INTERFACE TO FACILITATE EMX 2500 USERS' MIGRATION

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- DSC Communications Corp. and Motorola Inc.'s (NYSE: MOT) Cellular Infrastructure Group today announced the signing of an expansion to the five-year agreement between the two companies for the delivery of DSC cellular switch products and services. As part of the revised agreement, DSC will provide repackaged smaller configurations of Motorola's EMX(R) 2500 cellular switch, permitting Motorola to offer cost-effective introductory systems in a variety of new markets. Financial terms of the revised agreement were not disclosed.
Specifically, Motorola will represent the EMX 2500 as a more powerful alternative to Motorola's older and smaller EMX(R) 250/500 product line. In addition, Motorola, with DSC, will target China, a strong cellular market for new EMX 2500 opportunities.
Additionally, as part of the new agreement, Motorola and DSC are jointly implementing enhancements to the EMX 2500 cellular switch to provide an interface between it and Motorola's next generation digital radio equipment the SC(TM) 9600 Base Station System. The new " A+" interface, which has been recommended as a potential standard for North America, will enable EMX 2500 cellular switch users to retain their existing switching equipment as they migrate to the next generation of digital cellular radio systems.
According to Hensley E. West, DSC's senior vice president, North American Sales, "This renewed an expanded commitment between DSC and Motorola is indicative of the excellent working relationship that exists between our two companies. We appreciate Motorola's expression of confidence in our products and in our ability to help them satisfy their customers. We look forward to participating in the opening of additional new markets with Motorola."
"The market will benefit the most from these actions," said Marty Singer, vice president and director of Business Development of Motorola's Cellular Infrastructure Group. " We believe the smaller configurations of the EMX 2500 will provide cellular operators with a cost effective entry vehicle with the growth potential and flexibility to meet their requirements well into the future."
