MOTOROLA'S ACQUISITION OF STARFISH BOON TO REX PC COMPANION
Franklin Electronic Publishers, Starfish's partner for the REX line, believes Motorola's acquisition can act to accelerate REX's growth. Motorola's commitment to building upon Starfish's TrueSync Technology Platform offers endless design and integration opportunities for the REX device to further establish its leadership position in the Connected Information Device (CID) market.
Franklin Electronic Publishers and Starfish first demonstrated the integration of the TrueSync Technology Platform with the development of REX -- the first-ever PC Companion that enables mobile professionals to access critical contact, calendar and to-do information anytime, anywhere. REX charted a course for a new generation of devices that, with Motorola's support, will continue to offer customers the benefits of wireless connectivity.
"Starfish's TrueSync Technology Platform offers the perfect combination of simplicity and sophistication that has been an integral part of REX's success," said Andrew Cross, CEO of Franklin Electronic Publishers. "We look forward to working with both Motorola and Starfish to take the 'connected experience' to a new level."
Starfish created the TrueSync Technology Platform, which was used to design, develop, and produce all software components of REX. Starfish partnered with Franklin to oversee the production, marketing and distribution of REX.
REX has won a number of major awards including: PC Magazine "Editor's Choice," Popular Science "Best of What's New," Windows Sources "Stellar," Mobile Computing & Communications "Moby," Boot Magazine "Lust List," "Technology Advancement of the Year" and "PC Card of the Year" from industry analyst firm Mobile Insights, and 1998 International CES Innovations `98.
"The REX was our first product to be built on the TrueSync Technology Platform and its track record to date is phenomenal," said Philippe Kahn, chairman and co-founder of Starfish Software Inc. "With Motorola's recent acquisition, REX's functionality and design capabilities are limitless, and we look forward to continued success with Franklin."
