While the COPS County Crime Task Force and High Impact COPS program worked to solve crime and nuisance problems, the COPS motorcycle team will specifically target traffic concerns.

Sheriff's officials sought a grant to solve traffic problems after deputies in the High Impact COPS program conducted a door-to-door survey of residents, who cited traffic as their primary issue.

``Without exception, traffic has always been given to us as the primary nuisance concern,'' said Schultz.

While officials are working to hire the motorcycle officers, two existing deputies have been assigned to the patrol.

``We're working to hire 20 deputies,'' said Schultz. ``Two will eventually be placed permanently in Lancaster and Palmdale.''
